5th Annual OK Dual Sport Clayton Ride

This weekend is the 5th annual OK Dual Sport ride in Clayton, Oklahoma. Riders from all across the central U.S. will gather in this sleepy town 40 miles southeast of McAlester for three days of riding adventure. This year over 50 riders are expected to this popular event, which began as a way to introduce other riders to the rugged wilderness riding available in southeast Oklahoma.

Home base for the ride will be at Clayton Lake State Park, 5 miles southeast of Clayton on Highway 271. While billed as a dual sport ride, it is primarily an off-road event. Riders bring all types of bikes to the event, from the venerable Kawasaki KLR 650 to KTM, Honda, Yamaha and Suzuki dirt bikes, Honda XR-650's, lots of DRZ-400's and the occasional street bike. Groups form up each morning to ride varying terrain, from rock-strewn single-track to graded logging roads to winding asphalt.
Riders of any skill level can find a group that fits their comfort level, from novice to experienced off-road racer. Ideally you should have a street legal motorcycle, although some riders bring full-on dirt bikes without tags.

Saturday night includes a BBQ dinner and outdoor movie. Most people camp but there are a limited number of hotels and cabins available in and around Clayton. For more information check the dual sport forum. A movie from last year is available here.
