Motorcycle Events Oct 22-23
Fall is upon us, and what better time to get on your bike, cruise along the Oklahoma backroads, view some beautiful fall foliage, and take in an motorcycle spectacle. This weekend there are several 2-wheeled gatherings going on across the state.
First up is the Northeast Oklahoma Trials Riders (NEOTT) is hosting their "Octobertest" observed trials event in Disney, Oklahoma, right below the Grand Lake Dam. If you have never seen observed trials riding, you will be amazed at the balance and poise these riders have on their shrunk-down dirt bikes. Watch them climb sheer vertical rocks 6' high, balance on a postage-sized rock on two wheels, bunny-hop over obstacles, and do tail whips to reverse their course without every moving the front wheel. It is quite an amazing site, and the timing is perfect for a beautiful ride through eastern Oklahoma's fall foliage.
Prefer a bit faster pace? How about the Okie Dirt Rider's Crosstimbers Enduro in Davis? For the first time since the closing of the old Draper Lake trails, ODR will be running their long-running enduro in a new location in the Arbuckle Mountains. Just a couple of hours from OKC or a few minutes from Ardmore, you can watch riders from all across the midwest converge for some hard paced dirt riding action.
Got a hankering for even more two wheeled speed? How about a trip to watch motorcycle lapping day at Hallett Raceway? Located between Tulsa and Stillwater on Highway 51, Hallett offers free spectator entry for all motorcyclists. You can walk through the pits, talk to the riders, and even take a parade lap during the lunch break. If you love hearing screaming 4-cylinder sport bikes running 140 mph up the front straights, or booming Ducati's and Buell's pounding through the corners, Hallett is a great diversion and just an hour's drive from either OKC or Tulsa.
And finally, if laid back cruising and poker runs is more your style, there are several rides across Oklahoma, from Tonkawa to Shawnee to Stillwater and Bartlesville. Get out the big V-Twin, grab up some buddies and cruise through the countryside and help raise money for some worthwhile causes.
Better yet, start the weekend at one event and hit several while you are out riding. This is a great weekend to be on two wheels!
