Maxxis AMA Endurocross - Lazy E Arena in Guthrie

AMA's latest form of racing, Endurocross, came to the Lazy E Arena in Guthrie on Saturday night, October 6. This new form of racing tries to bring the challenges of true off-road enduro racing to an indoor venue. To recreate some of the outdoor challenges, organizers use materials such as telephone poles, heavy excavation equipment tires, huge concrete culverts, water pits and limestone riprap. The course is so challenging, many off-road riders cannot complete even a single lap. The top off-road riders in the world, such as Brittian's David Knight and USA's Ty Davis competed with local racers Guy Cooper and others.

The event provided a spectacle of off-road riding that had to be seen to be believed. The water pit had huge telephone poles under 3 feet of water, and riders were forced to navigate huge tires over 7' tall.

The race was won again by the always tough David Knight. Ride Oklahoma's Bill Dragoo had an opportunity to interview David between heats and we will have a story about the event and the challenges involved in an upcoming issue.
