Bill Dragoo going to South Africa for International BMW GS Trophy competition

Norman native Bill Dragoo recently earned an all expenses paid trip to South Africa to compete for Team USA in the International BMW GS Trophy competition. Bill won second place at the USA BMW GS trophy competitition in Castaic, CA. The California event pits skilled BMW riders from around the USA competing on a motocross-style dirt bike course on 550 lbs BMW R1200GS motorcycles. The top three riders go on to form Team USA and travel to South Africa to compete against teams from 11 other countries. The two day event held in Castaic, CA saw riders wrestling their big GS motorccles over logs, through sand pits, mud bogs, rocky uphill and downhill climbs, on a course that was a mix of motorcross track, hill climbing, observed trials, and an olympic style cross country ski course. Bill placed second to a rider 30 years his jiunior, scoring a scant 2 points less out of a total of 250 total points possible.
In November 2010 Bill we be traveling to South Africa to compete for one week against the best riders from 11 outher countries. They will spend a week camping in the desert, wrestling their bikes over natural and man-made objects, and working as a team to bring their bikes to the finish line together and in one piece.
Congratulations to Bill Dragoo and best luck for the November 2010 International GS Trophy competition.
